Teams at a Glance | Envision Virgin Racing

Envision Virgin Racing, founded in 2013, are a British motor racing team that compete in the Formula E series. Virgin were one of the first teams to join the sport for the inaugural season in 2014.

Virgin signed Same Bird and Jaime Alguersuari for their first season with Bird taking the teams first podium during the first race. Alguersuari was later replaced by Favio Leimer for the final two rounds in London. Overall, the team finished 5th in the standings. They signed with DS for the 2015-16 season, retaining Sam Bird for another year and signing Jean-Eric Vergne alongside him. The team found themselves in 3rd in the standings at the end of the year. For the 2016-17 season, they retained Bird once again and signed Jose Maria Lopez alongside. Alex Lynn took Lopez’ place in the two NYC rounds, retiring from both sessions, watching the team finish 4th.

Although he saw two retirements, Lynn returned alongside Bird for the 2017-18 season where they finished the season in 3rd. This was the teams last year with DS, who made the move to Techeetah for the 2018-29 season. Virgin joined forces with Envision to become Envision Virgin Racing where they continued with Sam Bird. They signed French driver, Robin Frijins, to accompany Bird where they saw their best season. They took third with both drivers taking to the top of the podium during a race. This was the first time a driver, other than Bird, had taken a race win with Virgin. They stuck with the same drivers for the 2019-20 season where they finished 4th.

For the upcoming season, the team are keeping their contract with Envision and keeping their driver line up of Bird and Frijns. This year, the team will be aiming to reclaim third or higher in the teams championship.
