Abt Sportsline GmH was founded in 1991, following Auto-Abt in Daimlerstrasse. Johann Abt, the founder of the company, made the move to motorsports with the company where they went on to win several important championships in Germany, such as; the 1999 Super Touring Car Cup, the 2002, 04, 07, 08 and 09 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters and the 2009 and 10 ADAC GT Masters. 2009 was the teams best year where they went on to win with Timo Scheoder in DTM, Christian Abt in ADAC GT Masters and Daniel Abt in the ADAC Formel.

FIA Formula E
ABT Formula E team debuted in the series first year during 2014 and 2015. The team signed on Lucas di Grassi and Daniel Abt. Their year started off well with di Grassi taking the first ever win in Beijing before taking second in the following race. They went on to take a further four podiums and the team took 3rd in the standings. ABT remained with their driver lineup for a second year for the 2015-16 season where they improved to second in the standings after di Grassi went on to take three wins and a further four podiums whiles Abt took three podiums. The two drivers took second in the standings for the team once more in 2016-17 where di Grassitook a further two wins and five podiums. Abt didn’t managed to take a podium however, the team still finished runner up.
The 2017 to 2018 season was the teams best season as they went on to win their one and only Formula E series. Lucas di Grassi took second four times in a row, followed by two wins and a further second to finish off their season while Abt took two wins and two further podiums. ABT went on to take second in the standings once more in 2018 to 2019 as di Grassi took the only two wins for the team and a second while Abt took two thirds.
2019-2020 FIA Formula E
For their FIA Formula E Season, the team will be joined by Daniel Abt in car number 66 and Lucas di Grassi in car number 11. So far, they have raced in 5 races and the team sit at 6th with 46 points.
Because of Covid-19, the championship held a “Race at Home” series. Abt brought in a simracer to race as him. Audi dropped him from the team and brought in DTM and Audi driver Rene Rast.
