FIA Formula E
Techeetah made their debut in Formula E, taking over Team Aguri’s entry. Their first drivers announced were Frenchman Jean-Éric Vergne and Chinese Ma Qing Hua. Vergne scored Techeetah’s first podium in Buenos Aires ePrix in 2nd behind Sébastien Buemi. Ma Qing Hua was replaced by Esteban Gutiérrez for the following rounds during and after Mexico City ePrix. Here at Mexico City, they got their first double points race with 2nd from Vergne and 10th from Gutiérrez. Gutiérrez then left to take part in IndyCar so Stéphane Sarrazin replaced him. Techeetah scored double podiums in New York City race 1 and Montreal Race 1. Vergne also scored their first win in Montreal Race 2, winning a race in Techeetah’s debut.
For Season 4, they retained Jean-Éric Vergne but this time had André Lotterer. This pairing remained the same for the entire season. Vergne started off the season with a podium in 2nd and Lotterer was disqualified for leaving his car in an unsafe position in parc fermé. From there, they went on to achieve Formula E’s first 1-2 in Santiago where Vergne won. Overall, Techeetah came 2nd with 262 points behind Audi Abt who had 264 points. However they did win the driver’s title with Vergne.
For 2018/2019, Formula E had brand new cars, dubbed Gen 2. This provided a super unpredictable season with many winners in different racers. Vergne was one of the few who won many times that season with 3 in Sanya, Monaco and Bern. Lotterer was close to winning a few times in Hong Kong, Rome and Paris. Despite this, the team won the championship this time with 222 points. Vergne won his second title and the first to do so with Techeetah.
2019-2020 FIA Formula E
For 2019/2020, Lotterer moved to Porsche so they had Portuguese António Félix da Costa take his place. For the first few rounds, Da Costa has scored 3 podiums and a win in Marrakesh, putting him first in the standings. Vergne has had less of a successful start with his highest position in 3rd with Marrakesh. Though, this has put Techeetah into 1st with 98 points, 8 points ahead of 2nd place Andretti.
